Violet Mustard from Brive

In the 14th century, Pope Clement VI, who was born in Corrèze and remembered that the well-known violet mustard was made in this region, summoned a mustard-maker to Avignon. Messire Jaubertie, who originally came from Turenne, was selected. He was so successful in his work that he was nominated “The Master Mustard Maker to the Pope”.

A traditional speciality from our town formerly made by my grandfather. We have saved this “sprite in a violet dress” made from grape must, with no added preservative or colour, from oblivion. Gentle and spicy, it enriches many types of dishes.
